Featured Obituary:

Marta F. Evans (Fischer) of Deerfield, IL, passed away peacefully, at the age of 90 (“39”) on May 20. She ended this life’s journey with her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, LeRoy F. Evans, by her side. Marta was a consummate Chicagoan: born on the North Side, a Senn High School graduate, and a lifelong, rabid Bears fan. She loved all animals, but especially dogs, and was fortunate to raise and be loved for more than 30 years by two West Highland White Terriers: McKeever and Bailey.

Marta was a lifelong learner and educator, earning a Master’s degree in Elementary Math Education from the Chicago Teachers College (now Northeastern Illinois University), and then teaching in the 3 rd and 6 th grade for 32 years at North, West and South schools in Glencoe, IL. Marta loved her students and was highly regarded by her colleagues as an intelligent, talented, devoted, engaging and thoughtful teacher. She readily remembered the names, personalities and accomplishments of her students for many decades, and was frequently in contact with many of them long after she retired from teaching. Hundreds of boomer-aged Chicagoland adults likely remember Marta as their favorite teacher.

Marta loved music, art and learning, and together with Roy, often attended performances at Northwestern University and Ravinia. After retiring, Marta and Roy toured famous concert halls and cultural centers in France, Italy, Germany and Austria, took adult education classes at Northwestern University, and for years enjoyed weekly breakfast gatherings with a wonderful group of friends.
