Featured Obituary:
Robert A. Zywicki, 91, of Deerfield, IL, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband to the late Barbara (nee Hagerty). Loving father to Robert M., Cheryl (Mark) Connors, Cindy, and Carrie (Ted) Hamilton. Cherished grandpa to Elizabeth, Kevin, Sean, Katherine, Cameron, Alex, Jake, and Margaret. Devoted brother to the late Loretta Bala (nee Ornas) and the late Armella Cox-Bandur (nee Ornas).
Bob was born on September 23, 1930, in Chicago, IL to Martin and Margarita Zywicki (nee Maczkowski). He graduated in 1948 from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, IL. Bob was drafted in 1950 for the Korean War and honorably served his country.
Bob was always so proud of his service and was a dedicated member of the American Legion for over 60 years. He was a former Commander of the Deerfield American Legion Post 738 and was an active member for many years. Bob held various jobs throughout the course of his life and especially enjoyed his time as a Chicago Fireman. He was a self-made man and put himself through college all while supporting a family. Bob earned his bachelor’s degree in Business from Northwestern University in 1966.
He worked for many years in the wire and cable industry, first at Anixter Brothers starting out in the warehouse to eventually becoming a Vice President of the company. In 1988, he went on to co-found A-Z Industries and served as part of the executive team until his retirement in 2004.
Bob was a lifelong Cubs fan, and he was an avid collector of baseball memorabilia. One of the greatest joys of his life was watching his beloved Cubs win the World Series in 2016. Bob and his late wife Barbara were dedicated members of Holy Cross Church and the Patty Turner Center in Deerfield.
When asked by his daughters near the end of his life how he wanted to be remembered, he said, “Please remember me as a good husband, father, and grandfather. Also, please remember that I was loyal, hardworking, and honest.”Read more via Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home »
