HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Two days after seven people were killed and dozens more were injured in Highland Park’s July 4 parade, the Ravinia Festival announced on Wednesday it will either postpone or cancel scheduled shows through Sunday.

The festival, which is a popular outdoor music venue in the greater Chicago area, said the decision to cancel shows was made “after careful consideration” and after being in close consultation with many stakeholders.

“In light of Monday’s tragedy and out of deep respect for our community, Ravinia announces the cancellation or postponement of all concerts and events through Sunday,” festival organizers wrote in an email.

“Our shared hope is that the reduced activity – both within the park and in the neighborhoods surrounding Ravinia – will give the community the space and quiet to reflect and heal,” the statement said.

Officials said that anyone holding tickets for events scheduled for this week will receive a refund by Aug. 1. Scheduled events this week included performances by Sheryl Crow on Thursday, John Fogerty on Friday, Michael Franti and Spearhead on Saturday, and Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak on Sunday.
