Road Rage Shooting Reported On Route 41 In Highland Park: Police

Someone fired two shots, with one striking another car, during a "driving dispute" Monday afternoon, police said.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A motorist opened fire Monday on Route 41 in Highland Park during a dispute between drivers, police said.

One car was struck by a bullet, no one was injured and no one is in custody Tuesday, according to Highland Park police.

Shortly before 2:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Route 41 and Central Avenue exit for a reported road rage shooting, according to police.

The driver who called police reported that he was headed south on Skokie Valley Road just past Park Avenue West when the suspect pulled out a black handgun.

The shooter's car exited at Central Avenue and headed east, police said. Officers searched the area but were unable to find it.

Police said the suspect was described as a black man in his mid- to late 20s wearing a dark-colored, bandana-type head covering. His car was described as a silver or white four-door sedan with dark tinted windows and damage to the rear driver's side door.

The two drivers did not know each other prior to Monday afternoon's incident, police said.

No further information about the nature of the dispute that preceded the shooting was immediately available.

Police said Tuesday they are actively following up on multiple leads, but no further information could yet be shared with the public.
