Investigation of stolen car results in shoplifting charge for Chicago man with outstanding arrest warrant: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. INCIDENTS
PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package containing an estimated $832 worth of property that had been delivered to an address in the 500 block of Michigan Avenue at some point prior to 2 p.m. Feb. 8.
STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a 2011 Hyundai Sonata from the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road at some point prior to 4 p.m. Feb. 9.

THEFT
A resident reported around 3 p.m. on Feb. 16 that two credit cards and cash had been stolen from their wallet in the 110 block of Skokie Valley Road.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE

- Around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, someone reported criminal damage to trees near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue West and St Johns Avenue.
- Around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, police were told someone had smashed a window on a car parked in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road. Nothing was reported stolen from inside.
SHOPLIFTING
- A representative of the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, reported on the evening of Feb. 13 that someone had come into the store the prior day and stole about $600 worth of shaving products.
- Two unidentified shoplifters stole about $1,500 worth of items from the Ulta Beauty, 135 Skokie Valley Road, at some point prior to noon Feb. 14.
- Someone stole 2 Amazon Fire sticks, a Nintendo Switch and a Polaroid camera from the Target, 2099 Skokie Valley Road, at some point prior to noon Feb. 15.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 19-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 8 and charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and misdemeanor fleeing to elude police after fleeing Highland Park police attempting to pull him over for speeding on Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for no red taillights and speeding 26 to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit.
A 49-year-old Highwood woman was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 9 and charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Park Avenue West. Officers also issued her citations for improper lane usage and failure to signal properly.
Richard J. Romolo, 52, of the 5800 block of North Pulaski Road, Chicago, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Feb. 10 after officers were called to the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road to investigate a report of a stolen car. They found Romolo, who had an active arrest warrant from Lake County connected to a misdemeanor shoplifting arrest last May in Buffalo Grove. Highland Park police charged him with one count of felony retail theft and one of misdemeanor obstructing identification.
A 42-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 3:45 a.m. on Feb. 18 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop on Skokie Valley Road north of Half Day Road. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, suspended registration and failure to yield for a stationary motor vehicle.
