Hinsdale D86 Board Member Files Complaint Over Public Comments

A board member filed a complaint against a district community member for her public comments at a board meeting.

The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 school board plans to vote Oct. 19 on a complaint filed by board member Edward Corcoran against a district community member.

Corcoran believes that comments Joan Brandeis made at the board meeting July 20 were uncivil and attacking, in violation of board policy, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Brandeis’ comments on July 20 may be heard in the video above, from 04:50 to 09:00.

She said she was concerned about Corcoran’s judgement in facility priorities. She said he recommended approval for a softball field instead of roof repair.

Brandeis also questioned his financial judgement, specifically regarding a zero tax levy in 2013 that didn’t increase, meaning the district lost out on money it may have collected, she said.

Corcoran said her statements were untrue, the Tribune reported, and the levy did not leave the district with a deficit.
