HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale High School District 86 on Friday responded to a complaint that the district failed to investigate an alleged breach of a student's privacy.

Last week, former board member Debbie Levinthal told Patch that she resigned in 2023 to protect her family from the board's harassment and intimidation.

Her husband, Dan Levinthal, had earlier released documents on social media and to local news media related to the issue. The records indicated his wife was told the former superintendent breached her child's privacy.

Late Friday afternoon, the school board issued a statement on the matter.

"While we are unable to comment directly on the recent allegations shared on social media –allegations we believe to be unfounded – we want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to student privacy," the board said.

The board said it takes its responsibility seriously.

"We joined this Board to serve the best interests of our students, and we remain dedicated to upholding their safety, dignity, and confidentiality in everything we do," the statement said. "In addition to our steadfast support for students, we also care deeply about our dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff. Constantly questioning their integrity not only undermines their professionalism, but also disrupts the positive and productive learning environment our students deserve."

In a statement on Facebook on Monday, former board member Kay Gallo, an ally of Levinthal, said she reviewed the Levinthals' information.

"I can affirm that the allegations outlined in the released pleading are not unfounded," Gallo said.

She said she has stood by an email that she wrote in 2023 that later leaked. It was about the alleged breach.
