Hinsdale Police Issued 92 Seat Belt Citations During Labor Day Enforcement

From Aug. 24 to Sept. 7, the Hinsdale Police Department participated in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over drunk driving enforcement campaign, showing zero tolerance for impaired driving.

The Hinsdale Police Department issued:

• 92 seat belt citations
• 2 child safety restraint citations
• 1 driving on a suspended license arrest
• 1 citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle
• 24 citations for speeding
• 1 arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia
• 10 citations for illegal use of a cell phone while driving
• 13 citations for other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.

The local effort was part of a nationwide campaign in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

During the campaign, the Hinsdale Police Department ramped up its enforcement efforts. Officers participated in six impaired driving details, three day time (6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) seatbelt enforcement zones and eight night time (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) seatbelt enforcement zones. This totaled an extra 96 hours of extra patrol enforcement.

The high-visibility Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign aimed to increase awareness about the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, through the strict, no-nonsense enforcement of drunk driving laws. The other, equally important part of the crackdown was TV, radio and social media. It was hard to avoid the message.

The recent law enforcement crackdown was coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
