HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale official said this week that a local shopping center has "potential" code enforcement issues.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Trustee Luke Stifflear said the village's zoning panel recently spoke about the code problems at Gateway Square, 777 N. York Road.

"For any of you who have driven by there, I think you've seen the number of large trees that have been coming down. The trees have been sitting there for, in my estimation, too long," he said.

He also said a large steel frame to stop semitrucks has been falling. He called that a likely safety issue.

"There are a number of trailers that are continuously parked in the parking lot, which is also a code enforcement issue," Stifflear said.

The village, he said, has confirmed that the shopping center was recently sold.

"Discussions are underway to address the prior enforcement issues," Stifflear said. "I will follow up on that."

Nearly a year ago, then-Village President Tom Cauley lamented what he said was a high vacancy rate at Gateway Square.
