HINSDALE, IL – Seven more houses were added Tuesday to Hinsdale's list of historically significant buildings.

The Village Board voted to put them on the list.

Before the vote, 94 properties were on the list. But two are set to be removed because the homes were demolished. They are at 505 S. County Line Road and 114 S. Stough St.

The new homes on the list are at 201 N. Clay St., 311 Forest Road, 134 N. Lincoln St., 15 N. Monroe St., 136 S. Oak St., 32 W. Ogden Ave. and 234 E. Third St.

The owners requested the historic designations, which are included in property titles.

In 2022, the village started the list, along with incentives for homeowners to preserve homes, rather than tear them down.

"I would be remiss if I didn't thank every homeowner who takes advantage of this program," Trustee Alexis Braden said. "I love that it's continuing to gain traction. This wasn't just a honeymoon phase. Every couple of months, we're seeing added properties."

In particular, Braden pointed out the Terra Cotta House at 134 N. Lincoln. In 1894, the 18-room mansion was built to demonstrate terra cotta material, which had become a fad after the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, according to a Substack page.
