Homer Glen Woman Makes Life-Saving Kidney Donation to Father

Beth Kohlstedt says she didn't hesitate when she learned she was a match for organ donation.

This past Father's Day, Homer Glen resident Beth Kohlstedt took the "gift that keeps on giving" notion to a new level.

When tests revealed that the 40-year-old's kidneys were a compatible match for her dad, who was in need of a transplant, she didn't even hesitate, she said, in aChicago Tribune report. Chuck Cuttone, 70, underwent surgery June 20 — the day after Father's Day — at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

"He initially refused. … This was his worst nightmare, taking a kidney from an adult child," Kohlstedt said, in the story.

Cuttone was told he'd need a new kidney a few years ago after seeking a series of blood tests because he felt incessantly tired. He joined about 120,000 Americans on the national waiting list and began dialysis treatment three times per week.
