LTHS Board Honors Outgoing Student Board Members

LOCKPORT, IL — During the monthly LTHS Board of Education Meeting on Monday, the LTHS Board bid farewell to the student members for the 2024-2025 school year, as the student board members attended their final Board meeting, the District said in a release. This was the second year of appointing student Board of Education members.

The four senior students concluded their roles as student board members for the 2024-2025 school year: Mia Fontanetta and Averi Colella, Student Board of Education members; Michael Dierkes, Student Board Member on the Board's Curriculum Committee; Wazeera Shekoni, Student Board Member on the Board's Finance and Facilities Committee.

“As Board President, I want to sincerely thank our four outstanding student board members, Averi, Mia, Michael and Wazeera, for the meaningful contributions they made over the past year. Your voices have brought valuable insight and perspective to both our board meetings and committees," Dr. Veronica Shaw, LTHS D205 Board President, said in a release. "The Board of Education truly values and respects the role student input plays in shaping our school community. Thank you for your dedication, thoughtfulness, and leadership. We look forward to welcoming our new student board members, James, Ryan, Abigail and Evelyn, and working closely with them to continue improving the experience every student has at LTHS."

The four student board members thanked the LTHS Board on Monday for their opportunity to be involved.

In addition, the Board welcomed new student board members for the 2025-2026 school year, the District said. The Board selected:

Ryan Gleason and James Wyatt will serve as Student Board of Education members attending all formal, monthly Board meetings as well as any special meetings or workshops, as appropriate.

Abigail Carroll will serve as Student Board Member on the Board's Finance and Facilities Committee.

Evelyn Siedlarczyk will serve as Student Board Member on the Board's Curriculum Committee.

All the incoming student Board members will be seniors at LTHS during the 2025-2026 school year, the District said. The new student Board members will officially be sworn into their roles at the Board of Education meeting on Aug. 18.
