LTHS A Cappella Group Advances To Finals In New York City

LTHS' Vocal Point has made school history with its International Championship of High School A Cappella semifinal win.

LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Township High School’s premier treble a cappella group Vocal Point has made school history with its International Championship of High School A Cappella semifinal win on March 15, according to a release from the District.

The group, directed by Jean Garcera, has secured a place at the ICHSA finals in New York City next month after its win at the semi-final level.

This marks the first time an LTHS a cappella group has ever advanced to the finals stage and the first time a treble group will represent the Great Lakes region at the national competition, the District said in a release.

In addition to their semi-final championship title, Vocal Point members earned individual accolades:
Gabby Costello, Samantha Dobrzanski, Cheyenne Klimkiewicz, and Elisabeth Torbett won the
award for “Outstanding Choreography.” Lilah Gonzalez received the award for “Outstanding Soloist” for her rendition of "My Immortal" by Evanescence.

LTHS’s premier mixed a cappella group Off the Record directed by Chad Goetz also had an
impressive showing, earning the title of the ICHSA Great Lakes Runner-Up, the District said. Jack Selle was recognized for Outstanding Vocal Percussion, further showcasing the depth of talent within the school’s a cappella program.

As the runner-up, Off the Record now has the opportunity to compete in the ICHSA Wild Card
Competition, where they will submit a video performance and the results will be released at the
latest by April 4. If selected, they too will advance to NYC to compete on the Finals stage.

"This incredible achievement is a testament to the hard work, passion, and dedication of the
students, as well as the unwavering support of the LTHS music community. As Vocal Point
prepares for their historic journey to Finals, they continue to raise the bar for high school a
cappella in the region," the District said in a release.
