LTHS Drafting And Design Students Excel At IDEA State Competition

LOCKPORT, IL — On April 12, 15 Drafting and Design students from Lockport Township High School District 205 showcased their skills at the 48th Annual Illinois Design Educators Association State Competition, held at Illinois State University, according to a release from the District. LTHS students competed in eight categories at the state level—and achieved an unprecedented level of success, earning a school-record five state championships and three second-place finishes.

These students earned their place at state by finishing 1st or 2nd at the regional level, the district said. Competing in both individual and team divisions, students demonstrated advanced
problem-solving, technical drawing, and presentation skills.

In the individual CAD contests, students were challenged to complete complex design
drawings within a two-hour timeframe. In the team divisions, students worked since
January on in-depth design problems, presenting their research, drawings, models, and
final solutions to a panel of judges comprised of architects, engineers, college students,
and faculty members.

This is the most state champions LTHS has earned in a single year, bringing the total to 17 IDEA State Championships, the school said. Drafting and Design students are instructed by Jeff Brown and Rodger Ebert.
