LTHS Teacher Named 2025 SkillsUSA Illinois Advisor of the Year

LTHS' Matthew Mullins has been named Advisor of the Year for both the state and the Midwest.

LOCKPORT, IL — The LTHS Board of Education held its final meeting of the school year on Monday, and recognized several groups, including the 2025 SkillsUSA Illinois Advisor of the Year, Matthew Mullins, the District said in a news release.

Mullins, a Career and Technical Education teacher at LTHS, was honored with the state title at the SkillsUSA Illinois Career Competition on April 24. Reflecting on the achievement, Mullins shared:

"I'm deeply honored to be named the 2025 SkillsUSA Illinois Advisor of the Year. This recognition reflects the collective effort of our incredible students, dedicated colleagues, and supportive community," Mullins said. "Together, we've created a learning environment that emphasizes technical excellence, leadership, and service. I'm grateful for the opportunity to guide and grow alongside such passionate individuals. Thank you to SkillsUSA Illinois for this acknowledgment and for championing career and technical education across our state."

Department Chair for College and Career Applications Courtney Oxley-Turner added that Mullins has been named Advisor of the Year for both the state and the Midwest.

"Under his leadership, our chapter earned gold-level recognition for excellence. He has taken our SkillsUSA program to the next level, and we’re proud to announce that LTHS will have another state officer next year," she said in a release.
