Public Imput Welcomed As Lockport Police Seeks Re-Accreditation
The department, which was accredited in 2018, is seeking to become reaccredited which reduces liability risk and represents best practices.
LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Police Department has begun the process of becoming re-accredited through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, which will include an opportunity for public comment as part of an on-site assessment of the department.
The department received its first ILEAP accreditation in 2018, which, a department spokesman said, reduces liability risk, represents best practices for delivering professional services, saves on city Insurance costs, and gives the city additional pride, he said.
The public information session portion of the re-accreditation process will be held from 10-11 a.m. on July 27. All department employees, elected officials, and local residents will be permitted to call into the session.

Individual comments will be limited to five minutes and must address the police department’s ability to meet the standards required for accreditation. An assessment team will be on-site on July 26 and 27 to evaluate the department’s policies and procedures, operations, and support systems.
Receiving accreditation requires the department to meet at least 67 areas of ICEAP criteria, which represents best practices in serving the community. Once the department is evaluated by observers, the evaluation will be submitted for review by the entire accreditation committee.
