Tornado Warning Issued For Will County

WILL COUNTY, IL — A tornado warning has been issued until 5:30 p.m. for Joliet, New Lenox, Homer Glen, Mokena, Tinley Park, Orland Park, Frankfort and Frankfort Square. A tornado has been indicated on radar, and pea-sized hail is possible, according to the weather service.

A severe storm capable of producing a tornado was located over Ingalls Park, or over New Lenox, moving northeast at 50 mph, according to the weather service.

Severe weather is possible Wednesday afternoon, and the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Kendall, Kankakee, Grundy and Will counties, as well as most of central Illinois.

The watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the weather service, scattered storms could become strong to severe on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The main threats are damaging winds, hail and tornadoes.

"A few tornadoes may occur, especially along and south of I-80, possibly as far north as I-88," the weather service said.

There is a level 3 of 5 tornado risk, level 2 of 5 damaging wind risk and a level 2 of 5 large hail risk. The most likely time for severe storms is between 3 and 8 p.m.

After severe weather moves out of the area, there will be a period of "wind-whipped wet snow" overnight into Thursday. Slushy accumulations are possible, the weather service said.
