1 Shot During Attempted Vehicle Theft: Homewood PD

The man interrupted someone trying to steal his car from in his driveway, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — One person was shot when he interrupted someone trying to steal his vehicle early Wednesday, Homewood police said.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Homewood Police were called to the 3000 block of Matthew, for a report of an attempted vehicle theft and gunshot victim.

Police learned that the victim heard his vehicle start in his driveway and saw someone inside attempting to steal it, police said. He approached the suspect(s), who fired a handgun at the victim multiple times. The victim sustained a gunshot wound before retreating, police said. The suspect or suspects fled in another vehicle, leaving the victim’s car.

The victim was treated by Homewood Fire Department Paramedics and taken to an area hospital. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
