HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — Ten Homewood-Flossmoor High School students walked out of class Thursday morning to draw attention to sexual assault allegations made against a student at the high school.

The walkout occurred just one week after another mass walkout at the high school last Wednesday where about 300 students left the building in order to protest the school's handling of sexual harassment.

While organizers said they were unsure which student the allegations were lodged against, school officials said they are investigating the accusations.

"The school’s administrative team has been made aware of the allegations behind the walkout and is investigating and will be taking all steps necessary to ensure student safety and accountability," read a statement from interim Principal James Mitchem Jr. to Patch. "These are some of the most difficult situations to process at a school and due to privacy laws and legal restrictions, we are limited in what we can share with students, families and the community."

While Mitchem said the school supported students sharing their concerns, he said students who have been sexually assaulted or harassed should report the incident to parents, police or a school staff member.
