Approved Flossmoor Budget Accounts For Coronavirus Losses

The budgeted revenue loss accounts for an extended stay-at-home order and a "gradual" return to normal social activities, officials said.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — The village of Flossmoor has approved its budget for the 2021 fiscal year, which begins on May 1, 2020. The village board of trustees and Mayor Paul Braun passed the proposed budget during a meeting last week, according to information on the village website.

The adopted budget includes $573,384 in revenue adjustments "in anticipation of the economic impact of the stay-at-home order" related to the new coronavirus pandemic. Most of that amount, $437,000, comes from the village's general fund.

"The budgeted revenue losses assume an extended stay-at-home order and a gradual return to normal social activities during the summer months," a budget summary states, touting a "strong fund balance" as a result of "prudent fiscal management" that "will allow the village to continue to provide its operations and basic services should the revenue loss be greater than anticipated."

“The village board is very sensitive to the personal challenges many of our residents are facing because of the pandemic. The village will delay and defer any perceived extra strain on our residents for as long as possible,” Braun said.
