Calumet City Woman, 18, Dies After River Oaks Mall Shooting
According to police, reports said a 17-year-old male was also hurt in the Thursday evening shooting.
CALUMET CITY, IL — An 18-year-old woman died Saturday after a double shooting two days prior at River Oaks Center in Calumet City. According to WGN, 18-year-old Christin Ross, of Calumet City, was seriously hurt in a Thursday evening shooting at the mall and was taken to the hospital, but died Saturday evening, according to the Cook County Coroner's Office. WGN reported Calumet City Chief of Police Christopher Fletcher said officers responded around 6 p.m. Thursday to reports of shots fired, and when they arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy and Ross both seriously hurt.
The incident caused the mall to be placed on lockdown, and Fletcher said it didn't appear to be a random act of violence, according to WGN. Fletcher added that there's no immediate threat to public safety.
