Would-Be Car Thief Shoots At Homewood Resident: Police

Police two people attempted to steal a car early Monday in Homewood, and one opened fire on the owner.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Several gunshots were fired at a Homewood resident as a pair of would-be car thieves attempted to steal a vehicle early Monday morning, police said.

Police responded to the 18500 block of Perth Avenue at 5:35 a.m. after receiving a report of an attempted vehicle theft and shots fired.

The victim told police he saw an unknown person in his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. Police said when the victim yelled out, a second person who had been waiting by another vehicle on the street fired three gunshots at the victim.

Both suspects then got into the second vehicle and fled, heading north.

The victim was not injured in the shooting, police said. Shell casings were found at the scene by police.
