Composting Event Coming To Homewood Saturday

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Village Hall parking lot in Homewood.

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — A composting event is coming to the Village of Homewood on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The University of Illinois Extension in Cook County and the Village of Homewood have teamed up to keep compostables out of the landfill, according to the event announcement. The event will take place at the Village Hall, located at 2020 Chestnut Road.

Those who attend can drop off yard/garden/kitchen waste to be composted and stay for free giveaways. Attendees can also pick up free compost.

"Help us reach our goal of collecting 5 tons of compostable material!" the village wrote in the event announcement. "Please bring us your grass clippings, leaves, landscape waste, and kitchen scraps: eggshells, vegetable skins, and stems are welcome. Please do not bring products containing oil, dressings, dairy, meat, or bones! No branches over 2 inches in diameter!"
