Pistol Found During Traffic Stop: Homewood Police Blotter

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

Stolen Laptop

Jevon Childress, 19, of the 14000 block of School Street in Riverdale was charged with retail theft for stealing a laptop valued at $322 from Best Buy just after 10:30 a.m., according to police.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 

Stolen Cell Phone

Someone stole a cell phone out of a Homewood woman’s car parked on the 2300 block of Hawthorne Rd. sometime between 9 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 27, according to police. In addition to the stolen cell phone, the vehicle’s antenna was removed and left on the hood of the car, police say. 

Pistol Found and Confiscated

Police say they issued a citation for unlawful use of a weapon and failure to wear a seatbelt to a man discovered carrying a compact pistol on his person while driving at Maple Rd. and Halsted St. just before 8 a.m. Reports say police noticed the pistol after pulling the man over for not wearing a seat belt. The man said the he was carrying the gun for protection while he went to purchase a new car he found on Craigslist in Calumet City, police say.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 

Dog Attack

A smaller-sized dog of unknown breed broke free from its owner and bit a man on the right shin around 2:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of Hedgerow Lane, according to police. Reports say the dog tore the man’s pants, but did not break the skin. Police say the man kicked the dog away out of self-defense and yelled at the owner who retrieved the dog—only to let it loose again. Luckily, the dog did not attack again on the second round.
