Field Hospital For Coronavirus Patients Opening Outside Ingalls

One of two new field hospitals in Chicagoland will soon be ready outside Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

HARVEY, IL — A new field hospital for new coronavirus patients is in the works outside Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Crain's Chicago reported Thursday. The planned field hospital is one of two opening in the Chicagoland area in the coming days. The other one is outside the Vista East Medical Center in north suburban Waukegan.

International Medical Corps is staffing and deploying both units, while the north suburban based medical drugmaker Abbvie is funding them. The unit in Harvey is expected to be built early next week.

A spokesman from International Medical Corps told Crain's the two sites were selected based on community need, and included factors such as homelessness and access to insurance. The goal of the effort, according to Crain's, is to better serve underserved communities where many people who are at-risk to contract the coronavirus live.
