Flossmoor To Close Village Hall And Public Works By Friday

FLOSSMOOR, IL. — In response to Governor J.B Prtizker's recent Tier 3 restriction announcement, Flossmoor Village Hall and Public Works will be closed to the public starting Friday, Nov. 20, according to a village news release. In the days leading up to Friday, Village Hall does remain open, but the Village is discouraging in-person transactions. During this time, residents are encouraged to conduct business remotely via mail, drop box, email or phone, the release states.

Flossmoor Village Board of Trustee meetings will continue to be held virtually. Residents are invited to monitor the meeting using the dial-in number listed on the agendas found on the village website.

Public participation will be permitted only during the Citizen Comment portion of the agenda. Members of the public may also comment on items on the agenda by email to info@flossmoor.org. Comments received by 6 p.m. on the day of the meeting will be read during the meeting, the release states.

Doing Business with the Village:

Residents are encouraged to conduct business via mail, drop box, email or phone. Drop boxes are located in the Village Hall parking lot and in the Police Department lobby.

Water Bills:
Water bill payments may be dropped off in the drop boxes in the Village Hall parking lot (no cash) or the Police Department (cash accepted). Visit www.flossmoor.org to learn more about online payments.

New Water Accounts:
Application for new water/sewer accounts will be processed electronically. You can email a copy of the required documents to cmelendez@flossmoor.org or drop them off at the Police Department. Find out more about the required documents at www.flossmoor.org.

Building Permits and Inspections:
PDF's of all Building Permit Applications are available on our Permit Fact Sheets and Applications page. If you need a copy emailed or mailed please let us know.

Completed applications should be emailed, faxed, delivered through our drop boxes or returned via U.S. Mail along with any supporting documents (contractor requirements, signed copy of the contract, plat, etc.) and a check with the cost if known. See the village's contractor requirements, permit fact sheets and applications and basic permit feepages to help. You can also call the office at (708) 957-4101. Payments can be accepted at the drop boxes in the Village Hall parking lot (no cash) or the Police Department (cash accepted), according to the release.

If a property owner or contractor are faxing or emailing their application, we will contact you when review is complete with the cost of the permit and ask that you send a check (with construction address on check or attached letter) in the mail or in our drop box in the Village Hall Parking Lot or in the Police Department lobby, according to the release.

At this time, the village's system does not support over the phone credit card payments.
The village will then fax the completed permit, email a PDF copy of the permit or the permit can be mailed to you via U.S. Mail. The village can also make arrangements for pickup at the Police Department, according to the release.

Village Commission Meetings:
Future meetings of the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Village commission meetings will be held virtually.

Candidate Packets:
Candidate packets for the 2021 election, which have been available at Village Hall, will be available at the Police Department beginning Friday, Nov. 20.

Filing begins at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2021. If Village Hall remains closed to the public during the filing period, the Deputy Village Clerk will be onsite to accept simultaneous filings at the east doors of Village Hall at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 and again on Dec. 21 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Outside of those times, candidates may also file during business hours between Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 by calling in advance to ensure a staff member is on site to accept the filing. Those candidates should call Deputy Village Clerk Allison Matson at (708) 335-5411 or email info@flossmoor.org in advance.

All candidates filing at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 will be entered into a lottery for first position on the ballot. Candidates filing between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 21 will be entered into a lottery for the last position on the ballot.

Emergency Services:
Emergency services will continue normally, unless otherwise advised, but at this time child safety seat installations, fingerprinting and other non-life-safety inspections will be delayed.
The Flossmoor Police Department will still take reports via phone or in office, but any in-person reports will be taken socially distanced, when applicable.

"All of us have a personal responsibility to do our part during this national emergency regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the numbers or the government’s mitigation efforts. We need to continue practicing social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and using hand sanitizer, and limiting our travel to only essential business," said Mayor Paul Braun, according to the release. "The Village will continue to do what is necessary to provide essential public services no matter what. We realize that some service changes will be inconvenient but are very important and necessary to reduce the risk of virus exposure to the public and our employees, so that we can ensure essential services continue to be maintained."
