Flossmoor Debuts OAKtoberfest In Celebration Of Centennial
The new fest—featuring nature activities, live music, and food—is set for Saturday, Sept. 28.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — As part of its centennial celebration, the Village of Flossmoor on Sept. 28 will debut its OAKtoberfest, an event that offers a full day of celebrating nature, trees and community spirit with activities for all ages.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Flossmoor Park (Brassie Avenue and Flossmoor Road), visitors are invited to explore nature along a guided walk, discovering the local ecosystem's diverse tree canopy and native flowers. Interact in workshops and demonstrations by Flossmoor’s community partners, including the Chicago Region Trees Initiative, Possibility Place Nursery, Thorn Creek Audubon Society, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and the University of Illinois Extension, focusing on sustainable living practices, organic gardening, native plantings and more. Children will enjoy nature-themed programming and crafts just for them, plus rock climbing, a bubble performer and face painting. The Homewood Science Center will sponsor a native plant sale and activity, and the Flossmoor Public Library will offer a nature storytime for youngsters.
As the sun sets, get ready to party at the inaugural OAKtoberfest Music Festival, held from 4 to 9 p.m. in the South Commuter Lot (south of Flossmoor Road at Sterling Avenue). Enjoy music spun by DJ Lady Red from 106.3 FM, followed by live performances from local favorite Butterfield Creek and Chicago-based Ring of Music. Indulge in delicious food and beverages from food trucks and local vendors, such as The Bistro on Sterling, Dunning’s Gourmet Market & Deli, and Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery under the OAKtoberfest party tent.
