Flossmoor Partners With CMAP For Local Road Safety Plan
Flossmoor wants residents to fill out the survey to help create better roadways.
FLOSSMOOR, IL — The Village of Flossmoor announced Tuesday it's working with the Chicago Metropolitan Planning Agency (CMAP) to review all the public roads in the community and develop a local road safety plan (LRSP).
According to a village news release, the plan will contain recommendations for safety-related improvements to roadway infrastructure, as well as recommendations for ways to improve the behavior of all roadway users, including motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
"We need your help to improve the safety of pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists on our roads through an interactive map and survey that will be used to inform a new plan for Flossmoor’s roadways," the village stated in the release.

Local residents and stakeholders who experience using Flossmoor local roadways, and the village said they are necessary components of creating the LRSP. Completing a survey and providing location information through the interactive map is what the village said is "your way to get involved and provide valuable input" to the LRSP.
According to the village, the survey is open through Sept. 18, and asks participants to rank and comment on roadway safety concerns.

The village said that the interactive map provides community members with the opportunity to place comments directly on a digital map of Flossmoor. Suggested categories of comments include:
- Intersections that make you feel unsafe
- Near-miss locations, where a slight change in your position or timing could have resulted in a crash or injury
- Streets that you associate with dangerous speeds (or other unsafe behavior)
- Favorite areas of town for walking and bicycling
- Missing sidewalk connections that you want to highlight
Access the survey and interactive map here. The Local Road Safety Project is being funded through a grant from the CMAP Local Technical Assistance Program, according to the village.
