Flossmoor Recyclepalooza Returns Saturday, September 21
The event is held in the parking lot of Parker Junior High.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Area residents are invited to close out the summer season with a cleaning spree and to bring their recyclable items to Recyclepalooza from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Parker Junior High School parking lot (2810 School Street, Flossmoor). The event is sponsored by the Village of Flossmoor Green Commission and Homewood Disposal.
To keep things running smoothly and efficiently, participants are encouraged to stay in their vehicle with items sorted by category, clearly marked, and placed in the trunk so volunteers can unload their items. The Green Commission is excited to be working with the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) and Helping Hands, organizations that will be taking most of the recyclable items, which include: electronics, LEGOs, bicycles, pop tops, razors, eyeglasses, trophies, flags, sporting goods, bread tags, plastic gift cards, gently used clothes, new travel-size toiletries, small household items, styrofoam, gently used towels and blankets, mascara wands, ice skates and sleds, and used oral care products and packaging.
New this year, the Village will also be accepting cans of spray and aerosol paint ($1 fee per can) and cans of used latex paint ($2-$20 fee per can, depending on the size) to be recycled by Flat Can Recycling, one of the leading latex paint recyclers in the Midwest.

"This is a great opportunity to responsibly clean out your home and garage and to make a difference in your community," saID Stephanie Wright, Flossmoor’s Community Engagement Manager. "Many recycled items are put to good use nearby and others help around the world."
For example, recycled bicycles are donated to Working Bikes, a not-for-profit organization that collected donated bikes from the Midwest and puts them into the hands of people who need them as a source of transportation. Donated trophies are given new life as prizes for games and competitions at a local assisted-living facility. Donated ice skates and sleds will be collected and given to the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District to support its free skate and sled libraries in area parks.

Also, again this year, members of the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission will be helping at Recyclepalooza, as they join with Homewood’s Anew: Building Beyond Violence & Abuse to collect donations for its clients, in preparation for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Needed supplies include new toiletries, cleaning supplies, baby diapers/wipes and gift cards. These can be labeled “Anew Donation” when brought to the event.
