Flossmoor Teacher On Leave After Sexual Abuse Allegations: Report
The teacher works at Western Avenue Elementary School. A now 17-year-old former student told parents the teacher abused her 10 years ago.

FLOSSMOOR, IL —A teacher at Flossmoor Elementary District 161 is on administrative leave after a student told her parents the teacher sexually abused her over 10 years ago.
In a report first filed by the Daily Southtown, the girl's mother said her 17-year-old daughter told her family about the abuse last September. District officials told Patch the teacher was immediately placed on leave in October.
The teacher is still employed at Western Avenue Elementary School, which serves pre-kindergarten to fifth grade students. Their name has not been released.

Flossmoor Police Chief Tod Kamleiter told Patch an investigation into the allegations is ongoing, but village officials declined to comment further on Thursday.
District Superintendent Dana Smith said in an email to Western Avenue parents that the school is investigating the matter internally. The email was sent Dec. 2, 2021.

Daily Southtown staff reported officials denied a public records request for reports concerning the investigation and said releasing the materials could interfere with law enforcement proceedings.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office told Patch it is aware of the investigation.
