Flossmoor Veterans' Memorial Aims To Raise $7,500 For 'Giving Tuesday'

The nonprofit will celebrate the Dec. 3 fundraising effort with the theme of "Join Forces For Flossmoor."

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial, Inc. (FVM) is targeting a record-breaking $7,500 Giving Tuesday fundraising goal with the theme of “Join Forces for Flossmoor” on December 3.

First created in 2012 in New York City as a local philanthropic effort, Giving Tuesday is now an independent, nonprofit global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people each year to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. FVM’s online donation site allows people to make a secured Giving Tuesday gift in support of the Veterans’ Wall of Honor.

New for 2024, FVM will offer Fragments of Flossmoor: A Series of Essays on the Interesting, Curious, and Unique in Our Village as a thank you to donors. This book, authored by FVM Treasurer and Secretary Dr. Kristine Condon, is available in hardcover and paperback formats and includes 16 veteran-themed essays about little-known Flossmoor people, places, and events.

FVM will continue to offer engraved commemorative paver bricks that can recognize a veteran’s military service. These 4” x 8” pavers are available for a $125 donation and will be installed in the Wall of Honor donor plaza. FVM will also offer Hanes crewneck unisex sweatshirts, limited edition challenge coins, the Historic Flossmoor Sites coloring book, and the Richard Haas Murals in Homewood, Illinois, book as additional thank you premiums. All donations benefit FVM, an Illinois 501(c)(3) corporation.

"We’re just $14,000 from our goal to grade the Wall of Honor site and to begin construction in early spring," said retired Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, who serves as FVM’s president. "We are grateful for the support of the community as well as our Flossmoor veterans, and their families as we work to generate $7,500 for the 2024 Veterans’ Wall of Honor project. We hope everyone will ‘Join Forces for Flossmoor’ this Giving Tuesday and honor all our wonderful veterans this holiday season."
