Flossmoor Veterans' Memorial One Step Closer With Site Plan Approval
The Flossmoor Veterans' Memorial is another step closer to coming to fruition, with approval of a site plan and a special use permit.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial, Inc. (FVM) is one step closer to a spring Wall of Honor groundbreaking with two unanimous votes from the Village of Flossmoor Planning Commission and the Flossmoor Village Board of Trustees.
On Dec. 21, 2023, FVM presented its site plan for approval and a request for a special use permit to the Village Plan Commission. The Plan Commission recommended Village Board approval of both items with a 5-0 vote and one abstention. The Village Board of Trustees voted 6-0 on January 16 to approve both the site plan and the request for a special use permit.
“The Veterans’ Wall of Honor site is owned by the Canadian National Railway and the property is zoned for public use," said Former Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, president of FVM. "According to Flossmoor’s zoning ordinance the Veterans’ Wall of Honor is an ‘adaptive reuse’ to benefit a nonprofit. For that reason, the support of both the Plan Commission and the Village Board of Trustees was needed for us to move forward with construction. We are grateful for the Village’s support and we look forward to breaking ground this spring as Flossmoor celebrates its centennial anniversary.”

Since its September 2021 launch, FVM has engaged in community fundraising, including soliciting major donor support to raise over $110,000 in just over two years.
“We’ve relied on the support of the Village of Flossmoor, Canadian National Railway, and America in Bloom to finalize plans for a site that will be a true asset to the community. As we prepare for groundbreaking, we are actively searching for veteran-owned and credentialed general contractors who will help us build the Wall of Honor to honor Flossmoor veterans," Braun said.

FVM will construct the Veterans’ Wall of Honor on a 9,500 square-foot parcel located north of Flossmoor Road and east of the Metra/CN railroad tracks. Designed by Flossmoor architect Michael Matthys, the Wall of Honor will be a tribute to all current and former Flossmoor residents who have served our nation’s Armed Forces.
In addition to Braun, other corporate officers and members of the fundraising and
communications subcommittees include John Beele, Kristine Condon, Richard Condon,
