Flossmoor's Hidden Gem Half Marathon Named CARA's Race Of The Year
The fledgling race in only its third year earned an award based on runners' feedback.
FLOSSMOOR, IL — It's its tree-lined route and stunning views have made it a favorite with runners, and now the organizers have the hardware to prove it.
The Chicago Area Runners Association has named Flossmoor's beloved UChicago Medicine 2022 Hidden Gem Half Marathon its "Race of the Year."
The distinction is based on runners' input and considers dozens of races held throughout Chicagoland each year, organizers shared on the race's Facebook page. In its third year, the race drew nearly 1,000 participants in 2022.

Runners travel through Flossmoor’s neighborhoods and tree-lined streets, past schools, parks and churches, and experience the inclusive community spirit that makes Flossmoor unique, according to a release from the Village.
"We know the Hidden Gem Half is not possible without the contribution and cooperation of the Village of Flossmoor staff and leadership, our valued sponsors, the runners who chose us and the hundreds of race day volunteers and Flossmoor residents who line the streets of our Gem to make it so special," organizers shared on social media. "We wanted you to know that we share this award with all of you!"
