Homewood Names Next Police Chief Ahead Of Current Department Leader's Last Day
Deputy Chief Thomas Johnson will be sworn into the role of Chief at the Village Board's Jan. 27 meeting.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood has named Thomas Johnson as its new chief of police following an internal interview process.
Johnson will assume leadership of the Homewood Police Department on Jan. 10, following the retirement of Chief Denise McGrath. McGrath will remain in her role through Friday, Jan. 9, concluding more than three decades of distinguished law enforcement service.
Village officials said Johnson was selected based on his experience, leadership skills and commitment to public safety and community engagement. Johnson served for seven years with the Village of Glenwood Police Department before joining the Homewood Police Department in 2009. Most recently, Johnson has served as Deputy Chief of Police since February 2024.
