Gun Recovered, Suspect Arrested After Shelter In Place In Homewood: Cops

Homewood police were called to assist Chicago Heights police in finding an armed suspect.

HOMEWOOD, IL — One person is in custody after Homewood police aided in a pursuit of a suspect Friday afternoon, the Village said.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Friday, Homewood police were called to assist Chicago Heights Police, who were looking for an armed suspect that had crashed a vehicle into a tree and fled on foot, according to a release from the Village of Homewood.

A gun was recovered near the crash site, and the suspect taken into custody in the 1500 block of 187th Street, police said.

While the incident was evolving, ECOM Dispatch sent a RAVE Alert to residents in the area as Willow School was placed on lockdown and a K9 unit assisted during the search. Residents within a five-block radius of 186th and Riegel were asked to shelter in place.

No one was injured during the incident, according to police.

The suspect is in custody of the Chicago Heights Police Department.
