H-F Girls Tennis Team Takes Title at Lincoln-Way East

Vikings' Faith Huckabee finishes No. 1 in singles play at the Lincoln-Way East girls tennis invitational, leads H-F to team title.

The Homewood-Flossmoor girls tennis team won the Lincoln-Way East Invitational in impressive fashion on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Vikings' Faith Huckabee won first singles, the team of Colleen Kenney and Alison Lessner took first doubles, and Jacqueline Wintkler and Tiemara Maxwell won at second doubles.

Homewood-Flossmoor finished with 29 points during the invite, nine points better than the second-place finishing school.

Boys Soccer: Marian Rolls at L-W Invite

The Marian Catholic boys soccer team opened the Lincoln-Way North Invitational with 1-0 victory over Plainfield South in a match on Tuesday, Sept. 6, in Chicago Heights.

The lone goal of the game came off the foot of freshman  in the second half of play, while keeper Everette Senetar notched three saves in the win.

Marian continued pool play in the invitational on Thursday at Reavis, where the Spartans won 2-1 against the Rams on the road. Guarino notched his second goal of the week and Joe Saenz  provided the difference-maker with eight minutes left in regulation to put Marian over the top.

The Spartans wrapped up pool play on Friday, Sept. 9, at Lincoln-Way North against the Phoenix with a 0-0 tie.

The Spartans finished pool play with a 2-0-1 record and play in the semifinals on Thursday, Sept. 15, at Lincoln-Way North. 

Girls Volley: T.F. South Too Much for H-F

The Homewood-Flossmoor girls volleyball team was unable to find an answer for the Rebels' Nicole Gill (9 kills) and Crystal Lee (7 kills) in a 25-18, 27-25 loss at Thornton Fractional South.

Girls Cross-Country: Spartans Take Fifth

Angela Totos placed 17th with a time of 20:57 for three miles to lead the way for Marian Catholic, while Jacqueline Silverman, Helena Mierzwa, Maureen Volkman and Lauren Kujawa all also earned points for the Spartans at the St. Viator Invitational.

Marian Catholic totaled 145 points at the invite, which was held Sept. 7 at Melas Park, and placed fifth.
