H-F Organization Collecting Dollar Tree Meal Kits, Food Items For Families In Need

Action for a Better Tomorrow is partnering with Homewood and Flossmoor schools on the collection effort running now through Dec. 16.

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — A local organization focused on supporting community members in need is running a meal-kit and food drive to feed local families for the holidays.

Action for a Better Tomorrow, in partnership with Homewood and Flossmoor schools, is holding a Dollar Tree Family Meal Kit + Breakfast and Snack Drive. The effort runs now through Dec. 16, and asks for donations of pre-assembled meal kits.

The effort "helps families receive ready-to-eat meals quickly and easily," the organization said in a release.

Additionally, they are seeking shelf stable breakfast and snack items for school social workers to have on hand.

Assemble one of these Dollar Tree meal kit options that include protein, sides, and veggies. Simple options to make are listed in a Google drive folder. One is also pictured below. The kits are designed to be of minimal cost to those willing to purchase the items.

Action for a Better Tomorrow grew as a response to the 2016 election results. Individuals from all over Illinois began their own chapters as a grassroots organization to "promote inclusiveness, equity, fight hate, and push elected officials to stand up for what is good and right."

The south suburbs chapter was a founder and active member of this movement.
