Homewood-Flossmoor HS Presents Virtual Performances From Summer Theatre
Two performances of "Peace, Love & Cupcakes" will stream this weekend.
In case you missed it in July, Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School is pleased to be able to present virtual, encore performances of this year's H-F Summer Theatre production: Peace, Love & Cupcakes. Directed by Jill Bonavia-Galligani, this musical will air Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m.
Based on the best-selling children’s book series by Sheryl & Carrie Berk, the story centers around Kylie Carson (Anly Flores), a junior high student with a big problem: she’s different, and different isn’t necessarily a good thing in junior high. She loves vampires, zombies and monster movies: one of the many reasons why kids at her new school avoid her. To sweeten up her image — and to find a place where she belongs — Kylie starts a cupcake club, attended by three other socially invisible girls. The girls forge a powerful friendship, figure out how to create crowd-pleasing cupcakes, and become a booming baking business. But when Meredith (Caroline Bivens), the school's resident Queen Bee, tries to sabotage their efforts, will Kylie have the courage to stand up to the bully and bring the school together? This all-ages musical celebrates kid power, friendship, and standing up for who you are and what you believe in.
