Historic Building Survey Underway In Flossmoor
Volunteers will be out photographing homes in a few Flossmoor neighborhoods over the next few months.

FLOSSMOOR, IL — Some Flossmoor residents may notice a few people out and about photographing homes over the next few months. Volunteers have agreed to help the village of Flossmoor conduct an historic building survey that's been in the works since late last night, according to a recent village e-newsletter.
The volunteer photographers will be out in the Old Flossmoor, Flossmoor Park, Heather Hill, Flossmoor Estates, Sylvan Court and other neighborhoods. In all, more than 1,000 homes and other buildings will be photographed.
The photos are necessary for the project, and will all be taken from sidewalks.

"No one will enter your property," the e-newsletter states.
The survey began as a way to evaluate and research the history of the village's buildings.

After the photos are taken, future steps in the project include classifying homes according to their architectural styles researching the history of homes, including the years they were built, the architect and any significant history of the buildings such as prominent residents.
"By documenting the history of our homes now, we are helping to ensure future generations have access to information about Flossmoor's history. We're also creating a baseline for future research and documentation."
In addition, the village can also use the information to see whether some of the neighborhoods could qualify for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
