CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — The South Suburban Humane Society has closed its Homewood Adoption Center and will consolidate operations at its shelter in Chicago Heights. The closure in Homewood is expected to be temporary and due to the recent outbreak of the new coronavirus, humane society officials said.

"Unprecedented. Uncertain. Unbelievable," read a March 15 Facebook post. "These are the words we're all feeling over and over right now. SSHS needs to consolidate our operations right now and therefore we are temporarily closing the operations at our SSHS Homewood Adoption Center until April 1."
