Homewood Fire Department To Install Smoke Detectors For Seniors For Free
The Be Alarmed! program will distribute up to two, free 10-year concealed battery smoke alarms to Homewood residents who are 60 and older.
HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood Fire Department will participate in the Be Alarmed! Smoke Alarm Installation program administered by the Camp I Am Me and Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal. The program will distribute up to two, free 10-year concealed battery smoke alarms to Homewood residents who are 60 and older. Homewood Fire will begin installing the smoke detectors to qualified residents Nov. 20.
The Be Alarmed! Smoke Alarm Installation program also distributes fire safety education materials in conjunction with the 10-year concealed battery smoke alarms to fire departments in the state of Illinois. Homewood Fire will distribute the educational materials while installing the free smoke alarms. The program was developed to educate residents on the dangers of fire, how to prevent fire from occurring in the home and to ensure there are working smoke alarms properly installed in homes.
“Smoke alarms are the most effective early warning devices to have in your home,” said Fire Chief Bob Grabowski. “By having a working smoke alarm in your home, it can help save your life.”
