'Homewood for the Holidays': Enter Village's Decorating Contest
Homewood is hosting another free house decorating contest. Here's how you can win an Aurelio's gift card and a sign in your yard.
HOMEWOOD, IL — Deck the house with decorations, be the best in the nation! ... or just in Homewood, to receive the bragging rights of being the winner of the "Homewood for the holidays — a house decorating contest."
The contest is back and the village want residents to "deck your halls" with your holiday decorations. Those with the best house will win an Aurelio’s gift card and a sign in their yard.
"Whether you like the simple warm glow of a 'Leg Lamp in the Window' or go all out 'Griswold,' we want to see your holiday decorations!" the village said. "Join the fun, we Triple-Dog-Dare Ya!"

The village said participation is open and free to all Homewood residents.
The competition will be judged in three categories:

- Classic Holiday Theme.
- Clark Griswold Award for most lighting display.
- Best Theme: movie, holiday blow-ups, or colorful displays.
The village said participants must abide by the following rules:
- Employees and elected officials of the Village of Homewood are not eligible to participate.
- Entry applications due no later than on Friday, Dec. 18, at 5:00 p.m.
- Judging is based on “curb appeal”.
- Judges will not view decorations on the side or back of the house.
- Participants must agree to have photos of their decorated house on social media, e-newsletter, and other village publications.
- Participants should ensure all lights, animations, and decorations are in place and activated for the judging period of the night.
- All decorations must be PG rated-not discriminatory, political, or in any way inappropriate for children and neighbors to see.
- Decorations must comply with Homewood laws and housing codes.
- Judges are authorized to exclude entries that do not comply with these guidelines.
Judging will take place on Dec. 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Winners will be announced on Dec. 22, according to the village. To apply fill out the application, here.
