Homewood PD Giving Away Steering Wheel Locks To Kia, Hyundai Owners

The steering wheel locks are available with proof of vehicle registration and owner residency.

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood Police Department has partnered with Kia and Hyundai corporations to help combat motor vehicle theft after a recent increase in stolen vehicles. Starting Monday, March 6, Homewood Police will give away free steering wheel locks to Homewood residents who own or lease a Hyundai or Kia that was manufactured between 2011-2021.

“We are thankful for Kia and Hyundai to provide us with the opportunity to assist our residents in protecting their vehicles,” said Deputy Police Chief Bob Misner. “We encourage residents who operate their Kia and Hyundai vehicle’s ignition with a steel key to stop in and get their free wheel lock.”

Residents who own a Kia and Hyundai manufactured between 2011 and 2021 will need to show proof of vehicle registration with Homewood village limits in order to receive the wheel lock. Additionally, residents must show the steel key for ignition, a state issued ID card, and the Kia or Hyundai which they drive.
