Homewood School Tests Plan To Disable Students' Electronics Overnight
According to District 153 officials, school issued devices will be shut off from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in an effort to improve students' sleep.
HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, IL — One Homewood district is setting rules around screen time after months of at-home learning blurred the line between school and social activities, officials said.
Administration from Homewood Elementary School District No. 153 announced a plan to turn off internet access overnight on school devices issued to students in third through eighth grade.
The new program will begin Monday and disable online games, chatting, learning boards and even access to online classroom materials from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Students in third to eighth grade are participating in the program for the next eight weeks until the end of the school year.
Parents won't need to do anything to their student's school issued tablets or computers as the program can be enabled remotely.
