Homewood Transitions To Online Permitting And Contractor Registration

HOMEWOOD, IL — The Village of Homewood’s Building Division will roll out online software to streamline the permitting and contractor application process beginning February 3. Previously, the Village only accepted in-person applications. This new software will allow residents, contractors, and builders the opportunity to submit permit applications online.

“Our new online permitting process will dramatically cut the application permit process down for residents, contractors, and our building department staff,” said Fire Chief Bob Grabowski. “We are really excited to start the online process and keep things simple.”

The new software will afford residents the opportunity to apply for home renovation permits at any time of the day. There will be faster turnaround for processing permits, contractor registration, new business applications, and new construction plans. The Village also took into consideration the environment and how significantly less paper will be used for the application process.

Additionally, residents can inform the Village if there are any concerns regarding property maintenance such as overgrowth of grass, debris, trash cans, cars parked on grass, and more.

“We’re excited to offer the opportunity for contractors and property owners to submit their permits and documentation electronically. This will enable the process to occur faster and reduce the in-office wait time to obtain the permit, especially for those that are issued over the counter,” said Building Division Secretary Darlene Leonard. “ If the contractor isn’t registered, or if the registration has expired, the permit applicant will be notified by the software before it’s even submitted for review. The process is very streamlined.”

The online software will be live on the Village of Homewood website on February 4. Applications for new building construction for residential or commercial property types and cell towers (new & modifications) must still be completed in person.
