Indiana State Trooper Airlifted Off I-80/94 Tuesday (Update)

Borman Expressway was shut down as the trooper was flown to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

An Indiana State Trooper who ran into the back of a semi-tractor trailer late Wednesday morning on the Borman Expressway was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Trooper Jacob Raupp, 26, is in serious condition. Indiana State Police say the trooper was westbound in his police SUV on I-80/94 and just west of the exit to the toll road near Lake Station when he struck the semi as he approached slowed traffic. The front of the SUV was destroyed and the trooper had to be extricated by emergency crews.

The accident forced all lanes of the expressway to be closed between 11 and noon for the medical helicopter to land. Lanes were reopened later in the afternoon.
