Items Still Inside Lincoln Mall to be Sold Off

The Matteson mall was shut down Jan. 7. The future of the site is still uncertain.

Everything inside Matteson’s Lincoln Mall must go!

That’s the order from a Cook County judge Thursday, Feb. 19, which gave the mall’s receiver permission to sell off everything remaining in the building, from benches to Christmas decorations, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

A public sale is likely to be held sometime in late March, the report stated.

Once the items are sold, however, the plans for the mall, which was shuttered Jan. 7, are still undecided. The village has said no to making the mall another area for retail space, as well as a proposal that would build a water park, ice rink and bowling alley on the site, the report stated.

A Cook County judge in November ordered its closing. That order came after Matteson officials wanted the mall shut down because of deteriorating conditions that were causing a safety hazard.

Despite the mall’s closing, the Carson Pirie Scott store remains open.
