Man, 18, Found Asleep In Stolen Car With Illegal Guns: Park Forest PD

Park Forest police found the man in the parked, stolen car in downtown Park Forest Jan. 14, they said.

PARK FOREST, IL — A Chicago man faces charges after Park Forest police reportedly found him asleep inside a stolen vehicle, while also in possession of two illegal guns.

Odegion H. Hill, 18, was charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle after he was found sleeping in a stolen vehicle with the two handguns, including one with an auto sear that converted it to a fully automatic weapon, Park Forest police said.

On Jan. 14, 2023 at about 1:30 a.m., an officer was patrolling downtown Park Forest when he spotted a parked Kia with no license plates. Aware of a surge in theft of similar vehicles, the officer got out of his car to obtain the vehicle's VIN, also then spotting Hill asleep in the driver's seat, "with a handgun tucked between his seat and the center console," police said.

"The handgun had an auto sear installed, an attachment that is commonly referred to as a 'switch,'" police said. "Once installed, the auto sear converts the handgun to a fully automatic weapon, meaning the entire ammunition magazine can be shot with one pull of the trigger."

The officer and additional officers used ballistic shields for protection and gave loud and direct verbal commands, police said.

"... Hill complied and was taken into custody without anyone being hurt," police said.

The fully automatic handgun was found to be loaded with a drum-style magazine that contained 40 rounds of ammunition, according to the report. A second handgun with an extended magazine was located on the passenger seat immediately next to Hill.

Hill does not hold a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card or a Concealed Carry License. A check of the vehicle's VIN confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of Chicago.
