MARKHAM, IL — A 32-year-old Markham man was charged with illegally possessing ammunition after federal officials said Lavoyce Bays shot and wounded a man at a Markham gas station in 2019.

According to officials, Bays got into a fight with a man at a party the night of June 15, 2019. Following the party, police said Bays ran into the man at a gas station and fired a .40-caliber weapon at him while the man attempted to drive away from Bays.

At the scene, Markham police told Patch they found four cartridges of ammunition which led them to Bays. Since the man was a convicted felon, Bays was not allowed to possess a firearm or ammunition and was sentenced to 102 months in prison after pleading guilty to owning the cartridges.
