Matteson Teen Charged With Murder After Shooting Relative: Sheriff
The boy, 15, shot a relative during a verbal dispute Monday, Aug. 26, in the 22000 block of Governors Highway, the sheriff's office said.
COOK COUNTY, IL — A 15-year-old from Matteson has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing a relative during a verbal dispute, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Wednesday
At approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, Sheriff’s Police responded to a call of a shooting that happened outside a home in the 22000 block of Governors Highway. Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old Jose Moran-Padilla unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Moran-Padilla was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During the course of their investigation, Sheriff’s Police Detectives learned that during a verbal argument outside the home, the offender shot the victim in the back and right arm. Officers on scene recovered a semi-automatic handgun and two firearm magazines. The juvenile was then taken into custody without incident.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of first-degree murder.
The juvenile appeared for his initial hearing at Juvenile Court Wednesday, and a judge ordered him held at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.
